About Us

The 1st Hanborough Freeland Scout Group has been going strong since 1986!

We are a very active and popular group, with our Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers meeting regularly in Long Hanborough and Freeland.

Our History

Prior to this Cubs had met at the Manor School, Long Hanborough, the pack being part of the Eynsham Scout Group, at that time called West Evenlode.

There were no Beavers or Scouts in Long Hanborough or Freeland in 1986 and too many boys on the waiting list for West Evenlode to support, so the 1st Hanborough Freeland Scout Group was formed.

We have evidence of a Scout Troop existing in Long Hanborough during the 1940s and 50s and there used to be a scout hut in the village, but this was possibly knocked down during the 1960s to make way for new housing.

We currently use The Pavilion and the Recreation Hall in Long Hanborough as well as Freeland Village Hall.

Put your phone down and what are you left with? Just teamwork, courage and the skills to succeed.’
